Aaron Schubert - Pastor

I was born in Lapeer, Michigan in July of 1986 and raised in a Christian home by two God fearing parents. I was homeschooled by my mother in Bay City, Michigan until I left for college. I was saved at the age of 10 and baptized shortly thereafter in the Midland Evangelical Free Church. My spiritual growth since that day has been a difficult but rewarding experience. Hillsdale College where I attended for my BA particularly challenged me as I encountered many sincere men and women who were from widely disparate backgrounds. I met, befriended, and struggled with believers from nearly every major denomination: Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Lutheran, Anglican, Presbyterian, Methodist, Charismatic, Baptist, Reformed, all devotedly seeking God. This experience challenged many of my assumptions about what I believed and why, driving me to plumb the depths of my knowledge of God and his Word. As a result, I learned much from many different denominations even though I still strongly disagree with some of their doctrines. This experience intensified my desire to study theology on an academic level.

I met my wife Tiffany at Hillsdale where I majored in History, and we were married several months after graduation. We both desired to go on to graduate school, but we chose to take a year off from academics and teach English as a second language in South Korea. This experience was excellent and reaffirmed my desire to teach. Through a number of circumstances, friends, and conversations, I decided to apply to Seminary. My wife was attending the University of Dallas where she earned her M.A. and Ph.D. in English Literature, so I began attending Dallas Theological Seminary back in 2010 and completed my Th.M. and Ph.D. there in 2019. My dissertation was on how Augustine reads the Bible in light of Faith, Hope, and Love, which was a lot of fun and a ton of work. We moved to Lander in 2018 because Tiffany was offered a professorship at Wyoming Catholic College. I began preaching at the Lander Free Church as the pastoral intern in 2020 and began preaching full time in 2021. We have one son, Edmund, born in 2015, and one daughter Alina, born in 2022. While I enjoy the study of Scripture during the week in preparation for sharing what God has shown me each Sunday, I also value engaging in the more systematic theology side of things and teach a Monday evening class on theology for the church as well as teaching online for DTS. In my spare time I enjoy cooking, skiing, hiking, watching football, playing strategy and card games, and reading histories, particularly European, and literature, particularly Tolkien, Lewis, and Jane Austen.
